Susan asks…

I need help with ebooks…?

I have an eReader installed in my Palm Tungsten E2. Now I don’t know what format of ebooks my palm can read. Any advice on what kind of ebooks my palm can read?

Your manual should list what formats you can use. If not go to www. your service provider.com and check with their help section or tech department.

Richard asks…

Need help finding a book…?

I downloaded a eReader application for my Palm Treo 755P (about a year ago) and it came with 2 free books. One of the books was a sci-fi/horror novel about this team that was sent to the south pole to explore what happened to a military team that disappeared there a few months prior.

What they found was was pretty crazy and the point is, I don’t remember the name of the book and I don’t use the Palm anymore. Anyone know what the title of this book is or where I can track it down?
No, it wasn’t Lost City but it does sound interesting. Forward me the text to if you will.

It was definitely the South Pole. There were some artifacts that were found that pointed to a missing link for aboriginal indians in Australia that ended up under the south pole.

Thanks!

Are you sure it was the south pole?  Clive Cussler’s Lost City sounds close.  They look for a team that was lost, they find a city in the ice… Very exciting. Even if that’s not the story, you may enjoy it anyway. He is one of my favorite authors.

James asks…

Cheap eBook Reading Solution?

Right now, I’m in a country where any electronic gear is a bit overpriced. Without considering what might be available in my particular (undisclosed) location:

What is the cheapest eBook reading solution available?

I found a site with LOTS of free eBooks and I would like to take advantage of the English titles which are hard to find here.

I considered my phone, but have not found an ebook reader, plus the screen would be a pain to read anything long on.

The Sony book reader, and the iLiad eReader are both VERY expensive, even in the States.

What about a palm? An old model palm or other pda? One that is easy on the eyes?

All suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks for answering :)

Buy any Pocket PC / Windows Mobile 2002, 2003 2003SE or 2005 (WM5) device (they are pretty cheap on eBay). You can install Microsoft Pocket Reader for free – and there’s THOUSANDS of free ebooks available online. It’s a GREAT reader program – you’ll never know how you did without it. Microsoft also supply a free plug-in for Microsoft Word that allows you to create ebooks from Word documents.

But I Like BOOKS!

Amazon Kindle 3G Wireless Reading Device, i like books

But, I Like Books!

Whenever I thought about getting any type of electronic reader, I kept thinking about how much I like books!  The smell.  The sound.  These were my exact words.  I didn’t want to trade that sensory experience for the cold, hard feel of an eReader!  No.  Not me.  The quintessential book lover!

Still.  Those features kept luring me in….I could read anywhere!  I could carry hundreds of books with me everywhere.  I could take my favorite books on vacation on a plane and not worry about packing them.  I could adjust the font.  I could even listen to music or surf the internet on the eReader.  So, you know what happened.  I succombed to the lure, the temptation of the Amazon Kindle.  And, even though I like books…I can tell you, after only a couple of days with my Kindle, I actually PREFER reading on my Kindle these days.

Why I Like Books…on My Kindle!

Why?  Simple.  With my Kindle, there’s no more propping my book up, no more trying to hold the pages open, and no more losing my place when propping my book open fails.

I just open the cover, wake the Kindle up, and I’m right where I left off.   It stays open and flat when I read in bed, when I lay on the couch, and when I ride my exercise bike and read.

I don’t even notice the page turns anymore!  It literally takes only a couple of hours to get used to reading on a Kindle versus reading on a page.   Just the touch of a button turns the page.  It’s awesome!  And, even though I still like books…I like books just as much digitally these days!

Coming Soon: Full Color nook!

Full Color nookJust in time for the holidays, Barnes & Noble will soon introduce the new FULL COLOR nook eReader!  Running on Google’s Android operating system, this one just might be a game changer in the “war” against the iPad. If the nook can deliver functionality, keep the lightweight feel, the longer battery life, and the low price of current eReaders, Barnes & Noble might just overtake both the iPad and the Kindle!
