You tend not to read textbooks for as long as novels (I didn't read my textbooks for any more time than was absolutely necessary when I was a student) - so using an LCD color screen instead of an e-ink display shouldn't be too punishing on your eyes. The price is certainly right. The Fire certainly looks like a good addition to Amazon's Kindle range. The only thing I would say is that, looking at the current (hugely expanded) selection of Kindles, it's difficult for me to imagine who would opt for the DX these days. More expensive than the Fire, no color, poor web browsing - it looks kind of out of place and not great value for money. I think that the Fire will prove popular with students.
