Do I Need an eReader Stand?

One of the first things that I ordered after ordering my Kindle was a stand to use when I wanted to read while doing something…

If you’re like me, you’re a multi-tasker…meaning that sometimes you read while you’re working out, while you’re eating (especially if it’s a night when you happen to be eating alone)… heck, I even read a little while I am drying my hair!   I read while I’m laying out in the sun on the beach….pretty much anywhere I am, I’ve got my Kindle.

That’s why, as soon as I got my Kindle, I turned around and ordered the stand.  Now, I can read whenever, wherever, and however I want.  AND I can read WHILE I am doing other things.

Plus, when I am not reading with it, it’s the perfect place at home to store my Kindle – I always know where it is.

What do you think of the Sony reader digital book?

I want to get a Sony Reader digital book, however,  I would like to know if you like it, and what other people think of this device.

It’s okay, I’d go with the Amazon Kindle though.  I’ve used both, and would say I get more out of my Amazon Kindle.

George asks…

Can you read a Sony Reader Digital Book in the dark?

I am looking at the PRS300R model. Does it have a backlight so it can be read in the dark? If not, does Sony or another company make a digital book reader that a person can read in the dark?

Most eInk eReaders simulate actual books, so you will need to get a light for those models in order to read in the dark. It is just like you need book light when reading books in dark. Most readers prefer eInk over backlit models, however, Barnes & Noble does offer the nook in color, and it is backlit.  While I don’t really like the backlighting, many people do, so you may want to look at it.

I’ve got the Kindle and I just picked up a light designed for my Kindle.

I love my Kindle!  I’m not sure if it helps, but between the Kindle and the Sony Reader, I’ll suggest you to go for the Kindle instead of Sony. The Kindle is better because it has free wireless and text-to-speech function. There are more ebooks you can find available for the Kindle, and books on the Kindle are quite a lot cheaper too.

And in case you don’t know, Amazon has recently slashed prices on the Kindle, and gives you international wireless access and native PDF support… So take the chance if you want it.

Hope it helps :)

Sharon asks…

Is the Sony Reader Digital Book worth the money?

I’m thinking of buying the Sony Reader Digital Book, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the money. I’m an avid reader but I’m not sure if I’m ready to give up regular books. Also, where can you download the “digital” books?

If you are in the U.S., I’ll suggest you to go for the Kindle instead of Sony Reader.  See the question above this one. :)

I own the Kindle and I love it!  It is better than Sony Reader because Amazon provides good content support, and the number of books available in Kindle format keeps increasing (right now there are over 800,000 Kindle books). With the Sony Reader, however, many users complain that it is difficult to find suitable books. Other benefits of the Kindle over Sony Reader include the free wireless internet access, and the text-to-speech function.

If you often read PDF, you may want to go for the Kindle DX. The regular Kindle is a little small to use the pdf viewer with much success.

Paul asks…

In addition to the advantages mentioned by the other posters, the Kindle has on more major one – the selection available. Amazon currently offers about 800,000 titles in Kindle format, and they’re adding more all the time. The last time I checked, Sony had far less available. With that much selection available, you can pretty much guarantee always having something to read that you will enjoy.
