Coming Soon…Another Kindle????

If you check out the Amazon website today, you’ll find that the Kindle 2 is listed as “Temporarily Out of Stock.”   Could this mean a new Kindle is on the way?  Historically yes…this has been the case. 

So, look for Amazon to update the Kindle line soon…hopefully in time for Christmas! 

(And, for those of you who keep up with this blog, remember, Amazon just released an update on the Kindle DX a few weeks ago, so this should not be a big surprise!)

Sharp Squaring Off Against Amazon & Apple?

Sharp has a new file format, known as Next-Generation XMDF, or ever-extending Mobile Document Format, and has introduced two prototype eReaders, signalling their intention to take on the Kindle and the iPad!

Both eReaders, announced in Japan this week, will have full color screens and feature the new file format. This file format allows a much more fluid integration of both text, audio and video when viewed on eReaders.

According to the corporate press release, “The next-generation XMDF enables easy viewing of digital contents including video and audio, and allows automatic adjustment of the layout to match and meet publishers’ needs.”

With persistent rumours of TWO new models of the popular iPad, and Kindle releasing a color version, this year’s Christmas gift season should be HOT for eReaders! And, we as consumers, can expect some EXCELLENT deals!

Microsoft Windows Tablets

That’s right!  Microsoft has announced that it already has several big name device vendors who will produce tablet style computers that will run Windows by the end of the year. 

For those of us who aren’t Apple fans, this comes as great news!  Now, we can have our Kindle eReader AND a tablet computer, ALL IN ONE. 

How?  Simple.  Amazon already has Kindle for PC…no doubt Kindle for Windows-based tablet computers is already in development.
