Barnes & Noble will sell the QUE™ proReader by Plastic Logic!

Plastic Logic and Barnes & Noble have announced that the QUE™ (pronounced “Q”) proReader, especially designed for business professionals, will be sold through Barnes & Noble’s stores and also online at Barnes & Noble.com.

“We are very excited to name Barnes & Noble as our first retail distribution partner and to have QUE featured prominently in its stores,” said Richard Archuleta, CEO of Plastic Logic. “QUE was designed from the ground up as a tool for busy business professionals, expanding the eReader market as its first and only proReader.”

The QUE will provide access to over a million eBooks through its QUE store, and will provide access to “a file cabinet’s worth of documents,” including newspapers and periodicals. It will support document formats that business professionals use most, including PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel documents and many more.

The QUE’s size will differ significantly from most other eReaders, at approximately the size of a sheet of paper.  And, the QUE is only one third of an inch thin, with a shatterproof plastic display, touchscreen, and powerful features to manage your content.
“We’re excited to expand our relationship with Plastic Logic to include not only an eBookstore, but also a physical presence in our bookstores nationwide and on BN.com,” said William J. Lynch, president of BN.com. “QUE is an incredibly innovative product and a great device for business professionals. Carrying nook and QUE allows us to provide consumers a one-stop destination in Barnes & Noble stores to demo and buy two of the best eBook readers on the market. It also supports our digital strategy to offer customers choice, expand the market overall, and deliver on our promise to provide any book, any time, anywhere.”

Full product specifications, availability and pricing of QUE will be available January 7, 2010, and we can’t wait!

A Special Gift for Your Special Soldier

There are literally hundreds of thousands of military personnel stationed at bases around the country and around the world, and for most of them, they have a lot of time on their hands when they aren’t on duty.  The space they have for personal effects can also be very limited.   That’s what makes an eReader the perfect gift for a special soldier.   Sending an eReader loaded with hundreds of their favorite kinds of books is like sending a library full of books to your favorite soldier, and you know it’s a gift they’ll thoroughly appreciate and enjoy!

Alex, the Google Android-Based eReader

Alex

On October 19, Spring Design announced Alex™, the first eReader based on Google Android, and featuring full browser capabilities and a patented dual screen interaction technology, the Duet Navigator™. With multimedia links, Alex livens up text, adding a new dimension to your reading experience!  The dual-screen display design joins the efficiency of reading on a monochrome EPD (electronic paper display) screen with dynamic hyperlinked multimedia information and third party input on a secondary color LCD screen, opening a rich world of Internet content that will support the text on the main screen.

Alex is the first Google Android-based electronic reading device to provide full Internet browsing via Wi-Fi or mobile networks such as 3G, EVDO/CDMA and GSM. With dual-screen, multi-access capability, Alex provides the entire Web universe as a handy reference library, prompting users to delve into its vast information base to complement, clarify, and enhance what you are reading. A removable SD card provides extensive storage capability, allowing the expansion of text with multimedia “add on” editions.

Ideal for professional, educational and entertainment markets, Alex will transform the reader’s experience with images, videos and notes inserted as ‘Web grabs.’ You can even create your own images and notes and capture them to augment the original text. Or you can just “grab” relevant content with Link Notes™, an innovative multimedia authoring tool to enhance multimedia publishing.

“This is the start of a whole new experience of reading content on e-books, potentially igniting a whole new industry in multimedia e-book publishing for secondary authors to create supplementary content that is hyper linked to the text. We are bringing life to books with audio, video, and annotations,” said Dr. Priscilla Lu, CEO of Spring Design. “This gives readers the ability to fully leverage the resources on the Web, and the tools available in search engines to augment the reading experience.”
